What are Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers?

Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are Amazon’s standard store brand diaper line made in zero-waste-to-landfill facilities in the USA. They are similar to Target Up & Up diapers or Costco Kirkland brand diapers and are designed to provide basic diapering needs for your baby.

What are Mama Bear Plush Protection Diapers?

Mama Bear Plush Protection Diapers are a premium diaper line offered by Amazon. These diapers are made in the USA and are crafted with sustainably harvested pulp that is certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Plush Protection diapers are considered a luxury option, similar to Hello Bello or Huggies diapers.

How Absorbent are Mama Bear Gentle Touch Diapers?

Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are designed to be gentle on your baby’s skin while providing protection against leaks. But how well do they actually absorb liquid? In this section, we’ll take a closer look at the absorbency of Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers through experimental testing, real-world testing, and overnight testing.

Experimental Testing

To test the absorbency of Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers, we conducted an experiment where each diaper was subjected to 350 mL of liquid poured over in seven 50 mL increments. After each pour, photos were taken every 5-seconds and after 25-seconds dryness was tested with a paper towel to pick up residual dampness.

The Gentle Touch diaper has a layer added of material in the front of the diaper that was wetter than the back of the diaper, which likely adds more overall absorption capacity. However, its absorption efficiency is lower which resulted in more dampness through the experiment.

At 50 mL, the Gentle Touch diaper was mostly dry except around the legs. From 100 mL to 200 mL, there was some dampness but not bad. The diaper was damper in the front at the liner and drier in the back.

At 250 mL the diaper was somewhat wet; at 300 mL the diaper was wet; and at 350 mL the diaper was very wet. After a resting period, there was still some dampness on the final paper towel test.

Real-World Testing

In real-world testing, Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers had average performance. When diapers were changed on schedule, the Gentle Touch diaper always did its job and worked fine. However, there were two occasions where the performance of the diaper faltered a little.

On one occasion, the baby went about 5 hours in a Gentle Touch diaper and had a major leak that resulted in liquid on the floor. On another occasion, the diaper released some of the absorbent beads on the baby. Although this was only a single occurrence, it is worth noting.

Despite these incidents, the Gentle Touch diapers are still reliable for most people who change their baby every 3 hours or so.

Overnight Testing

Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers did not perform as well for overnight wear. There were instances where we experienced light leaks, where only the baby’s pajamas were damp but not the sleeping bag or sheet. However, there were also instances where we experienced leaks through the sleep sack.

After testing, we decided to only use these diapers during the day.

In conclusion, Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers have average absorbency for daytime use, but may not be the best choice for overnight wear. It’s important to change your baby’s diaper frequently to prevent leaks, and to keep an eye on the diaper for any signs of leakage or malfunction.

How absorbent are Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers?

Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers are designed to provide excellent leakage protection and absorbency for your baby. They were subjected to experimental, real-life, and overnight testing to ensure their effectiveness and reliability.

Experimental testing

The experimental testing of Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers was conducted using the same method as the Gentle Touch testing. The diaper was poured with 50 mL of liquid for a total volume of 350 mL.

The Plush Protection diaper outperformed the Gentle Touch diaper in terms of absorbency. It efficiently absorbed liquid and had dry paper towel tests after the 50 mL, 100 mL, 150 mL, and 200 mL pours. At 250 mL, there was slight dampness remaining after 25 seconds, but the absorption at this higher volume was still impressive.

However, the Plush Protection diaper experienced some pooling of liquid around the legs starting at 250 mL that was unique to this diaper. Nevertheless, this is not a functional concern since a baby’s movement would redistribute the liquid.

At 300 mL, there was still only slightly dampness, and by 350 mL, you could visibly see absorption slow down, and the paper towel test was finally wet. After a resting period, there was slight dampness on the final paper towel test.

Real-world testing

Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers performed excellently in real-life testing. They were reliable and effective, even with slightly longer stretches between changes. There was not much to report here because they did the job and did it well. If you knew you were going for a longer drive or would be outside in the cold, Plush Protection would be the go-to diaper.

Overnight testing

Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers performed exceptionally well in overnight testing. There were no issues with leaks, and the diaper held strong even with added delay before changing. The baby’s skin never seemed overly damp or irritated in the diaper.

Plush Protection’s overnight performance is the biggest differentiator from the Gentle Touch line. It did a better job, which speaks to its improved absorption ability.

In conclusion, Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers are super absorbent, providing excellent leakage protection and absorbency for your baby. They performed well in experimental, real-life, and overnight testing, making them a reliable and effective choice for parents.

Diaper fit, comfort and size

When it comes to diapering your little one, you want a diaper that fits well, is comfortable, and is the right size for your baby’s weight. Mama Bear Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers have been designed to provide a secure fit, comfort, and come in different sizes to meet your baby’s diapering needs.

Size

Mama Bear Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers come in different sizes to accommodate babies of different weights. For this review, we compared size 3 diapers, which are suitable for babies between 16-28 lbs. Both Gentle Touch and Plush Protection size 3 diapers fit babies between 18-28 lbs. However, the Gentle Touch diapers run a bit larger than the Plush Protection diapers. A larger diaper size can be beneficial since it will fit your baby longer, and you’ll save more money in the long run.

Fit

Mama Bear Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers have been designed to fit your baby securely. The back waistband on the Mama Bear Gentle Touch has a lot of elastic ruching and gives a good amount of stretch, while the Mama Bear Plush waistband has a strip of padding in the waistband. It has some elastic but is not as stretchy as the Gentle Touch diapers. However, the waistband itself runs a little larger, so they turn out to be the same size when stretched.

The Gentle Touch diaper tabs include a grip strip, while the Plush Protection diaper has regular tabs. The grip strips start in size 3, presumably because babies become more mobile around the age they’d wear size 3 diapers. In practice, I did not notice much effect of these grip strips, but I appreciated the effort for a more luxury feature. The grip strips did not impact my ability to adjust the diaper tabs.

Comfort

Mama Bear diapers are very soft and comfortable, particularly compared to other store brand diapers. The Gentle Touch diapers are a little softer than their premium Plush Protection cousin, with the inside lining being slightly more velvety. Their outer shells were comparable.

The reinforcement of where the front tab connects to the diaper is slightly rough on the Plush Protection. In theory, this should not come in contact with the baby’s skin. However, it may happen if you get close to sizing up, or the diaper becomes too full, or your baby manages to shift the fit when moving.

In conclusion, Mama Bear Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers have been designed to provide a secure fit, comfort, and come in different sizes to meet your baby’s diapering needs. They are soft, breathable, and feature non-latex elastic and leg cuffs to prevent leaks. The Gentle Touch diapers run a bit larger than the Plush Protection diapers, and the grip strips on the Gentle Touch diaper tabs provide a more luxury feature.

Amazon-brand diaper ingredients

Mama Bear diapers are advertised as hypoallergenic and free from harmful chemicals. Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers don’t contain chlorine bleaching, perfumes, lotions, parabens, or phthalates. Mama Bear Plush Protection diapers are free from elemental chlorine bleaching, latex, lotion, and fragrance.

The Gentle Touch diapers include fluff, superabsorbent polymer, nonwoven dryness layer, polypropylene nonwoven fabrics, non-latex elastics, fastening system, moisture barrier, adhesives, and ink. The Plush Protection diapers include cellulose, sodium polyacrylate, polypropylene, polyester, polyurethane, and isoprene.

Cost of Mama Bear Diapers

Mama Bear diapers are Amazon’s store brand diapers that are priced more affordably than name brand diapers. The pricing of Mama Bear diapers varies by the package size. If you buy a single package, Gentle Touch diapers are about 5-8 cents more expensive per diaper than a comparable store brand like Target Up & Up or Wal-Mart’s Parent’s Choice. However, if you buy their four-pack option, the price is essentially the same as other store brands.

Mama Bear Gentle Touch is their standard diaper offering and is more affordable than their Plush Protection line. Plush Protection is their premium line of diapers, and it is priced accordingly. However, their diaper cost comes down when you opt for the 4-pack Plush Protection option. Prices fluctuate frequently, so it is worth keeping an eye on pricing. Mama Bear diapers often have sales on their Plush Protection diapers that make them more affordable than other premium diapers.

Additionally, Mama Bear diapers offer a subscribe and save feature that allows you to save up to 20% on each diaper package. This feature is especially useful if you plan on using Mama Bear diapers long-term.

In conclusion, Mama Bear diapers are a budget-friendly and affordable diaper option, especially if you opt for the subscribe and save feature or the 4-pack option.

Mama Bear Plush Protection vs. Gentle Touch diapers

How are Mama Bear Plush Protection and Gentle Touch diapers the same?

When it comes to ingredients, both Mama Bear Plush Protection and Gentle Touch diapers are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and elemental chlorine-free. They both offer a secure fit and have wetness indicators. Additionally, both diapers come in two designs, one simple white and one patterned.

How do Mama Bear Plush Protection and Gentle Touch diapers differ?

In terms of absorption, Mama Bear Plush Protection outperformed Gentle Touch. If you’re looking for a reliable overnight diaper, the Plush Protection line is a better choice. Gentle Touch diapers are a bit bigger than Plush Protection diapers, which may be a factor to consider depending on your baby’s size. The Gentle Touch line is Amazon’s economical diaper offering, while Plush Protection is their premium diaper line. Lastly, Gentle Touch diapers are a little softer than Plush Protection diapers, which may make them more comfortable for your baby.

Criteria Mama Bear Plush Protection Mama Bear Gentle Touch
Absorption Outperformed Gentle Touch
Overnight Wear More reliable
Size Smaller Bigger
Cost Premium diaper line Economical diaper offering
Comfort Softer

When comparing Mama Bear Plush Protection and Gentle Touch diapers, it’s important to consider your baby’s needs. While both lines have similarities, they also have differences that may make one more suitable for your little one than the other.

Conclusion: Should You Buy Amazon’s Mama Bear Diapers?

In summary, Amazon’s Mama Bear diapers are a reliable choice for parents. Both the Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers are worth considering, depending on your needs.

The Gentle Touch diapers are best suited for daytime wear, as they are reliable and convenient for ordering online with quick delivery. Compared to other store brand diapers, Mama Bear Gentle Touch performs better than Wal-Mart’s Parent’s Choice, Aldi diapers, and BJ’s Berkley Jensen diapers. However, for overnight wear, Target Up & Up’s diapers perform better.

On the other hand, Plush Protection diapers are a great all-around option. They perform similarly to Hello Bello diapers and are one step down from Huggies or Pampers. While they may not be the most affordable option, they are a good value for the quality, especially when on sale.

Overall, if you can find Mama Bear diapers on sale, they are definitely worth considering. However, if you prefer more affordable options, there are other brands available. Ultimately, the decision to buy Mama Bear diapers depends on your personal preferences and budget.

In terms of quality, Mama Bear diapers have received positive feedback from many parents. While some have reported issues with odor or defects, these seem to be isolated incidents. Additionally, Amazon offers a satisfaction guarantee, so if you are not happy with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or replacement.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a solid diaper option, Amazon’s Mama Bear diapers are definitely worth considering.
